William E. Stokes Jr., lovingly known as “Bill,” passed away on March 31, 2025, at the age of 79 in New Port Richey, FL. He was born on June 30, 1945, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and lived a life filled with dedication, kindness, and service to others.
A graduate of Harding University, Bill devoted 36 years to teaching in public schools, including Folsom Elementary. His passion for education and his students earned him the honor of New Jersey Governor’s Teacher of the Year. He was an active leader in the Lions Club of Hammonton, NJ, serving as a past member, King Lion (1986-1987), and Zone Chairman. His dedication to community service was recognized with the prestigious Melvin Jones Award.
Beyond his career in education, Bill found joy in many pursuits. He served as a docent on the Battleship New Jersey, coached basketball, and was a mentor to many friends of Bill W.. A man of deep faith, he was a devoted elder of the Christian Church of Holiday, FL.
Bill was known for his warm heart, his unwavering support for those around him, and his appreciation for the simple pleasures in life—especially desserts. He never turned down a sweet treat, with cheesecake holding a special place as his ultimate favorite.
He was married to his beloved bride, Karen, for 43 wonderful years. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William Sr. and Alice Jo Stokes. He is survived by his wife, Karen; his daughter, Kara (Kevin) Capps; his granddaughters, Laura and Lindy Capps; his brother, Joe (Cheri) Stokes; and many nieces and nephews.
Bill’s life was one of service, dedication, and love. His legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 5th, at 10:30 AM at Christian Church of Holiday, with a funeral service immediately following. A reception will be held in the church hall beginning at 12:30 PM.
