Richard Granato age 70 of West Deptford, NJ and formerly of Clayton, NJ passed away suddenly at home Sunday August 6, 2023.
Ritchie was born in Philadelphia, PA and was raised in Clayton where he played youth and high school sports. He graduated from Clayton High School in 1971 and started working for Air Products. He also worked for the Bechtel Corp. and Elite Welding & Testing. Following in his father’s footsteps he became a second generation welder for Local 322 for over 42 years. He took pride in his work, and in assisting the apprentices in their journey. His son Richard Jr. has followed in their footsteps and is also a welder for Local 322. After retiring Ritchie worked part time for Lowes in Sewell, NJ.
He is predeceased by his parents Nicholas and Helen (nee Kincaid) Granato .
Ritchie is survived by his loving wife of 36 years Wanda L. (nee Myers), his sons Richard Granato Jr, and wife Carolyn of Malaga, NJ, Michael Coleman and wife Jessica of Deptford, NJ, his sisters Patti Regan and husband Maurice, Gail Granato both of Clayton, NJ. His three grandchildren, Bryce, Chase and Kensley Coleman, three nephews, as well as Cheryl Morton, the mother of his son Richard Jr.
Ritchie enjoyed spending time working in his yard, days at the beach with Wanda, making wine, time spent with his sons, grandchildren, and being surrounded by his family.
To honor Ritchie’s wishes, there will be no service. Instead, family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Ritchie’s Life, Friday September 8, 2023 from 5:00pm – 9:00pm at the St. Michael’s Mutual Club 406 Memorial Ave. Gibbstown, NJ 08027.
