Obituary

Patricia B. Campanella (nee Bellwoar) age 96 of Hammonton, NJ passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday July 2nd.

Pat was born in Philadelphia PA just two weeks after the historic stock market crash of 1929. She was the oldest of six children, born to Harry and Margaret Bellwoar.
She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania and later received a Master of Social Work from Bryn Mawr College - an exceptional accomplishment for a woman of her generation.

Pat shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with her beloved husband, Matthew J. Campanella, Sr., until his passing in 2018. Together they raised five children beginning their family in Cherry Hill, New Jersey before moving to Severna Park, Maryland, and ultimately settling in Hammonton, Matt's hometown, in 1969. Pat proudly called Hammonton home for the remainder of her life and became an adopted Hammontonian in every sense.

Helping others was one of Pat's greatest joys and remained a constant throughout her life. She worked as a psychiatric social worker at Ancora Hospital, where she compassionately cared for countless individuals. She was also deeply involved in her children's schools, serving as PTA president and volunteering wherever she was needed.

A woman of deep faith, Pat was an active member of St. Joseph Church. She served as a Eucharistic Minister, volunteered regularly with the St. Vincent de Paul Society, and was a devoted member of the Altar Rosary Society, including serving as its president.

Pat treasured time spent in Ocean City, New Jersey, where her parents owned a summer home. As a teenager, she worked there as a waitress, and after marrying, she would bring her own family to spend summers with their grandparents at the shore. That love of Ocean City would endure when later in life, her children continued the tradition by taking her to Ocean City, where she delighted in making memories at the beach with her grandchildren. Pat also loved playing cards and was an avid bridge player.

Pat was predeceased by her beloved husband Matthew J. Campanella, Sr., her parents Harry J.J. Bellwoar, Jr. and Margaret Vogdes Bellwoar and brothers Harry J.J. Bellwoar, III and Thomas Bellwoar.

Pat is survived by her children, Peggy Linden (Mike), Matthew J. Campanella, Jr. (Anne), Mary Beth Pedlow (Drew), Kathryn C. Lambert (John) and Robert Campanella (Alice), her siblings, Joseph Bellwoar, Rosemary Melnick and Robert Bellwoar, 14 cherished grandchildren and 4 beloved great-grandchildren.

Pat was known for her gentle smile, thoughtful advice, quiet determination, and her remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, generous spirit, and unconditional love for her family. She touched countless lives through her compassion, service, and kindness, and her legacy will continue through the generations who were blessed to know and love her.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a viewing on Sunday, July 12, 2026 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and again on Monday July 13, 2026 from 9:30am - 10:30am both at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ 08037. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, July 13, 2026 at 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish, St. Joseph Church, Third and French Streets Hammonton, NJ. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 248 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Pat's name to the Matthew and Patricia Campanella Endowed Scholarship at Rowan University or the St. Vincent de Paul Society of Hammonton.
