John M. "Newty" DePalma, Sr., of Waterford, NJ, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at the age of 85 in Voorhees, New Jersey.
Born on October 30, 1940, in the Round House on Central Avenue in Hammonton, NJ, John was a proud member of the first graduating class of Edgewood Regional High School in Winslow Township in 1960. His life was marked by dedication to his family, his love for antique cars, horse racing, and a diverse and accomplished career.
John began his professional journey as a draftsman with Formigli Corporation and later worked for Camden Lime Company, Atlas Building Systems and Boccella Precast. He co-founded John and Jim’s Tire Service and owned and operated A Starry Nite Limousine Company. Additionally, he managed Alaskin Ice before concluding his career with over 21 years of service as a custodian for the Hammonton School District. Beyond his professional endeavors, John also contributed to his community by serving on the Waterford Township school board.
John was predeceased by his parents, Thomas L. DePalma, Sr., and Mary (Triboletti), as well as his brother, Thomas L. DePalma, Jr. He is survived by his devoted wife of 65 years, Rosemarie (Petruzzi); his son Dr. John M. DePalma Jr. and his wife Laura; his daughter Jodi Wilhelm and her husband Chris; and his sister Dolores Irizarry. He will be deeply missed by his grandchildren Justina, Christofer, Tyler, Thomas, and Kristen; nine great-grandchildren; and many others whose lives he touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to honor John's memory at a viewing on Saturday, July 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary of Mount Carmel Parish—St. Anthony of Padua Church located at 285 Route 206 in Hammonton, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m., with burial to be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, donations in John's name may be made to the Hammonton Cancer Foundation at P.O. Box 1066, Hammonton, NJ 08037.
