Israel Talavera, age 86 of Hammonton, NJ passed away on Monday October 15, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Hatillo, Puerto Rico and moved to Brooklyn, NY at the age of 14. He owned and operated Talavera Grocery store and Talavera Hardware in Brooklyn. While operating Talavera Hardware, he remained employed at Hamsley Steel Co. after relocating his family to Hammonton, NJ in 1971. He was subsequently employed at Lenox China in Pomona, NJ. Israel was a Golden Gloves boxer in his late teens in Brooklyn, NY. He loved boxing, professional wrestling and the NY Mets, though he loved nothing more than his household filled with his immediate and extended family and friends. He had a deep faith in the Lord and attended Hammonton First Assembly of God for over 30 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Tomasa (âTommie'), his children Darren and his wife Mylene, Glenn and his wife Lorry, Dennis and his wife Tamara and Tanya LaGuardia and her husband Nick. Dear brother of Raquel Mejias, Ramona Mena, Elizabeth Acosta and Luz Talavera. Loving grandfather of Matthew, Alexandria, Hannah, Mia, and Carmella. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thurs. 5-8pm at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ. Another viewing will be held on Friday 9-11am at Hammonton First Assembly of God Church 272 Rt. 206 Hammonton, NJ with services at 11am. Burial will be private.
