Obituary

George McDonald, age 96 of Elm Winslow Twp. NJ passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Kenly, NC and moved to Elm in 1970. He was a member of the Liberty Church of Christ in Hammonton, NJ. George is predeceased by his parents David and Lillie Mae McDonald, and his wife Erika (nee Sommer).

George served in the Army from 1948 through 1968. A veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Wars, he retired after sustaining injuries while in Vietnam. He was awarded numerous awards including a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After his military service, he earned his degree in Computer Science from Stockton University and worked as a programmer, ultimately retiring from the U.S. Postal Service in December of 1998.

An avid gardener, he cherished his time growing a variety of fresh fruits vegetables for his family, friends, and neighbors.

George dedicated his time to the youth of Camden County as the founder and Scoutmaster of Boy Scouts of America Troop 216 and Cub Scout Pack 216, along with supporting Troop 192.

Active in local government, he served his fellow residents of Winslow Township as the Secretary to the Public Assistance Board and as a member of the Parks and Recreation Committee.

He is survived by his three sons, James McDonald and his wife Stacie of Aurora, CO, Robert McDonald and his wife Rhonda of Colorado Springs, CO, Raymond McDonald and his wife Debbie of Margate City, NJ. George will be missed by his loving grandchildren, Victoria, Matthew and Alexa McDonald, along with his great grandchildren Cecilia, and Emerson McDonald.

Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday September 11, 2026 from 9:30 - 11:30am with service to be held at 11:30am all at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ. Burial will follow at New Jersey State Veterans Cemetery Wrightstown, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in George's memory to St Jude's Children's Hospital.
