George W. Cappuccio Sr., age 105, of Hammonton, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday April 15, 2026. He was born and raised in Hammonton, NJ, and graduated from Hammonton HS. George was a proud WWII Army Veteran, serving overseas in the 995th Field Artillery, battery C, as part of the US 5th Army, from 1943 to 1945. He experienced 472 days of combat in the European theatre. Upon returning from the war, he worked at Whitehall Labs in Hammonton. He also founded and ran Capp's Greenhouses in Hammonton for many years alongside his brother, Manuel. He was married to his late wife Aggie for 77 years.
George is predeceased by his loving wife Agatha, His parents Antonio and Josephine, his 11 siblings, and his grandson Matthew Wallace.
He is survived by his sons; George Cappuccio Jr. (Rebecca), and Dan Cappuccio (Barbara); his daughters Jean Dougherty (Larry), and Diane Wallace (Bob). Loving grandfather of Melanie Wallace Boffa, George Cappuccio III, Mark Cappuccio, Christopher Dougherty, Anna Dougherty, and great grandfather to Wesley, Reed and Rowan Cappuccio, Tressa Cappuccio and Oliver Dougherty.
George lived an exceptionally long and healthy life, taking great joy in his family and a variety of community and social activities. He was a natural musician who played trumpet and guitar, teaching, and later playing with the Weekstown Band. He was an active and vital member of the American Legion Post 186 in Hammonton, NJ. George and Aggie loved to dance and did so at every opportunity for many years. After retirement, he taught line dancing at 3 different Senior centers and reveled in the activity and friendships they made. He loved cards, cooking his sausage and peppers, being social and having his family around him. He always had an open door and warm smile for everyone. His gardening was legendary, and he continued to grow his amazing tomatoes into his late 90s.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday April 23, 2026 from 10:00am - 12:00pm followed by a funeral service, at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ 08037. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 124 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ 08037.
