Antonio “Tony” Galli, age 82 of Hammonton, NJ, died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Irene, in their home on Wednesday, April 27, 2022.
Tony was born in Tocco da Cassauria, Abruzzo, Italy. He came to the United States in 1955 and resided in Hammonton for the rest of his time.
Anyone who knew Tony, knew of his infectious personality and his love for family. He always enjoyed being surrounded by family and friends and sharing passionate stories about his diverse experiences. He took pride in his home and enjoyed landscaping it, always trying to convince his children that landscaping was an educational experience and not just a chore. Tony was extremely proud of his Italian heritage and often greeted people in his native language assuming everyone spoke Italian. He smiled ear to ear when they responded in Italian. He loved good food, especially Irene’s cooking, and good wine, and he enjoyed listening to operatic music.
He began adult life as the owner of a restaurant and bar (Hammonton Hotel) and later a deli (Glassboro Coldcuts). He later worked many years in the fine clothing manufacturing industry at Hammonton Park Clothes factory, and moved on to a supervisory position in Philadelphia at Pincus Brothers-Maxwell. He retired from Baxter International in Cherry Hill, NJ in pharmaceutical manufacturing. He set an excellent example for his children and grandchildren instilling in them a strong work ethic.
Tony was a dedicated member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed raising funds for the many important causes supported by the local chapter Pallotti Council No. 3471.
Tony is survived by his wife of nearly 60 years, Irene, their sons Tom (Cindy), Rick (Tammie), Mike (Kelly) Galli, and their daughter Renee Riebe (David). He is the loving grandfather of Jake, Anthony, Giuliana, Sophia, Juliette and Scarlett. He is also survived by his brothers Raffaele, Vincenzo, Paolo, his sisters Gemina, Agnese, Maria, and many extended relatives.
He is predeceased by his parents Cesare and Rosaria Galli, his brother Crescenzo Galli and his sister Francesca Bronzini (nee Galli).
