Obituary

Alfred Francis Salvatore, Sr., 87, of Hammonton, New Jersey passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side on June 23, 2026.

Alfred, who went by Al, was born in Hammonton on August 13, 1938 in a house on the corner of Third and French Streets near Saint Joseph's Church. He was proud to be a lifelong resident of Hammonton and took exceptional honor in his Middle Road Blueberry Farm roots. He truly loved living, working and raising his family in his little hometown and was thrilled to let everyone he met outside our community that he resided in the "Blueberry Capital of the World"

Al graduated from Hammonton High School in 1956, ranked 3rd in his class and served all 4 years as Class President. Among his many accolades and achievements in high school, he was National Honor Society President, voted by his classmates Most Likely to Succeed, elected Lieutenant Governor New Jersey District of Key Club International 1954-55 and was selected to American Legion Jersey Boys State 1956. After graduation, he studied Engineering for one year at Rutgers University. In September 1959 he married Lucille and went on to raise six wonderful children.

He was an amazing father and had an extraordinary work ethic which he passed onto his children. His life mission was to care for his family, often working two jobs. As a young man, he was employed by Alliance Clay Brickyard. He subsequently worked in shipping for William B. Kessler Hammonton Park Clothes for 15 years, then as a Production Line Supervisor for Whitehall Laboratories for 15 years. Part time, he worked at Dipaolo's Men's Clothing Store and Bruno's Auto Parts.

Al was devoted to his Catholic faith as a Eucharistic Minister and Parish Council member at Saint Martin de Porres Church for a combined 25 years. As a 3rd Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Pallotti Council #3471, he volunteered countless hours to many charitable events. In the 1960s and 1970s, he was a county Committeeman for the Democratic Party.

He served on the Planning Board for the Town of Hammonton and as President of the Hammonton High School Band Boosters Club.

He was remarkably intelligent and was always willing to share his knowledge and help others learn. He had a natural charm and wonderful sense of humor. Al used his natural artistic ability in countless ways and enjoyed sketching and tinkering on various projects. He enjoyed reading, gardening, and traveling the world. Al was an Elvis Presley fan and always happy to share that he saw Elvis live in concert.

Al was a loving and devoted husband to his wife, Lucille (nee Iannaco) of nearly 67 years, and the extremely proud and dedicated father to his six children. As a grandfather, Al was an incredible role model and inspiration to his 16 grandchildren, who he cherished dearly. He is predeceased by his parents Alfred J. and Rita J. (nee Nasso) Salvatore, sister Elizabeth Bowers and brother Joseph D. Salvatore.

Al is survived by his beloved wife Lucille (nee Iannaco), his sons Alfred F. Salvatore, Jr. (Rosemarie), Daryl A. Salvatore, Sr. (Kimberly), and Jeffery J. Salvatore, Sr. (Tracy) and his daughters Dawn Maria Salvatore, MD (Matthew), LuAnne Salvatore, and Colette G. Rehmann (Albert). He is also survived by 16 grandchildren.
