William F Ordille

William F. Ordille, age 80, of Hammonton, NJ, passed away Thursday, April 19, at Innova Health and Rehab in Hammonton, NJ. Bill graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1949. He attended Lineotype Institute of Philadelphia while working at Ventnor Print Shop. In 1951, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. At boot camp, he was chosen to lead the drill team and call cadence. Serving in communications, he intercepted a Russian code and was responsible for locating a Russian submarine. While stationed in North Africa, he was one of 40 men honored to have an audience with Pope Pius XII, a very memorable and important experience for him. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1955.
Bill worked at Whitehall Laboratories for 7 years before beginning his career in electronic and print media. He was employed at WNJH (WRDR) radio for 12 years before joining Times Graphics, where he served as advertising manager of several local newspapers, including the Hammonton News. He earned an award from the News Media Organization for creating the "Shop Locally Campaign" which became popular with many advertising agencies. In 1988, he received the employee of the year award. After 17 years, he retired from Times Graphics and dedicated all of his time to Mainline Card and Gift Shop, which he founded and owned for 33 years.
During Bill's early years, he worked with Al Mulliner and Herb Juliano to form the first Little League team in NJ. The Hammonton Little League team won the World Championship in 1949. He also established a basketball program for St. Joseph's middle school students. In 1964, he was named graduate of the year and received an award from St. Joseph Alumni Association for outstanding work with parish youth and his dedication to St. Joseph School.
In 1999, he was inducted into St. Joseph High School Athletic Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions on and off the playing field. In 2004, he received the "Nice Going Award" from the Chamber of Commerce in recognition of his years of service to the community. He was past president of the Greater Hammonton Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, St. Joseph's Alumni Association, and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He will be most remembered for his love and dedication to his family, church, and community.
He was predeceased by his two sons, William Francis Jr. and John Gerard(Jack), his parents, John B. and Anna Ordille, his siblings, Anthony, Charles(Rose), John, Robert, Joseph(Mildred), and Marietta Ordille. Surviving are his wife, Patricia(nee Christopher), daughter Pamela Raymond and her husband Stephen of Moorestown, NJ, daughter-in-law, Denise Ordille of Hammonton, NJ, sister-in-law, Rose Ordille of Somers Point, NJ, loving grandfather of Bailey Patricia Raymond, Bethany Rose Raymond and William Robert Ordille, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 9:30am - 11:00am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish St. Joseph Church 3rd and French Sts. Hammonton, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Burial will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 124 S. First Rd. Hammonton, NJ. Donations may be made to St. Mary of Mt.
