Susie Grieco

Susie Grieco (nee DiAnni) age 95 of Blue Anchor, NJ passed away peacefully Tuesday July 6, 2021 at her home with her children by her side. Susie was born on 104th Street in NYC, NY to Filippo and Giulia Di Ianni, who moved their young family to a chicken farm upstate because of the depression. After graduation from Poughkeepsie High School (NY) at the age of 16, and during WW II, her family moved to Newark (NJ) where she enjoyed working at the IRS for 9 years. She met and later married (at Mt. Carmel RC Church) Newark native, Francesco Grieco. Prior to the birth of their first child, the couple bought their homestead of 35 years in Nutley (NJ). While Volunteering in the rectory, she helped Librarian, Ann Troy install the school's 1st library at Holy Family RC Parish. After her children reached HS age, she returned to her specialty in bookkeeping of payroll and taxes P/T for William E. Williams Co., a local accounting firm. Upon retirement in late 1985, she moved to Blue Anchor with her husband. Although sorely missed, Susie will be remembered by her family and friends for her cooking, baking, note writing, voracious reading, honesty, selflessness, and prayer devotions. But more importantly, she will be remembered as a woman of intelligence, strength, and faith. Susie is predeceased her parents "Philip & Julia DiAnni"; husband of 57 years "Frank P."; infant sister, Nunziata; older sister Elvira "Vera" Pepe; younger sister Celeste Alfano; and her "#1" child and daughter Pauline. She is survived by her children Frank (Katherine) Grieco of Chicago and Nancy Grieco of Winslow; three grandchildren Jessica (Andrew) Smith of Enola (PA), Denise Bittner of Johnstown (PA), and Lauren Grieco of The Netherlands; and two great-grandsons Nathanial Smith and Brandon Bittner. Also to be remembered are children of friends to whom she was always "Grandma Susie" since their births: Hannah, Kaylee, Erin, and Kyle. Family and friends are invited to attend her viewing Monday, July 12th from 7:00 - 9:00pm and Tuesday from 9:30 - 10:15am at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. Third St. Hammonton, NJ 08037. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, July 13th at 11:00am at Christ the Redeemer Parish - Sacred Heart Church 119 N. Rt.73 Cedar Brook, NJ. Burial will follow at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery Wrightstown, NJ. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital 262 Danny Thomas Place Memphis, TN 38105 or a charity of your choice.
