Peter J. age 81, peacefully passed away on February 25, 2016 at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Pomona, NJ. Born and raised in Greenbank, NJ in earlier years before moving to the Hammonton area. Attended St. Joseph School and was a member of St. Joseph Church, where he served as Altar Boy for many years. He also attended Hammonton High School System, Class of 1952. Was in the Interior/Exterior Home Decorating business with his father before serving with the U.S. Navy in 1957-1958., where he was stationed in the Imperial Beach, California and Yokahama, Japan as a Classified Technician, before returning to the states with an honorable discharge. Member of the U.S. Naval reserves for many years. Was employed by Egg Harbor Boat Co. for two years, where he gained valuable experience in the yachting industry. Pete joined Viking Yacht Co. in New Gretna, NJ in 1967 as a supervisor and highly skilled individual. He became part of Viking's Proud and Elite "A" team who helped make Viking the leader in the yachting industry. His trademark was gleaming white hulls and richly varnished transoms on every Viking that went down the Bass River. Later working in R & D and managing the Fiberglass production from 1971- 1974. From 1975 - 1984, he managed product quality control. During this period he also worked the boat show circuit and took on the emerging field of customer relations and service. In1985, as Viking grew and more boats were launched, he helped create a new department devoted to product quality assurance and customer service. He assumed the responsibility of managing the department from 1992 - 2001. His easy going manner made him a natural to be a vital part of the Viking Owner Rendezvous program. From the first event, which began in 1980, Pete has conducted the informative and entertaining Owner's Seminars, which were highly anticipated, and handled countless customer requests for assistance. Always went out of his way to make sure the Viking customer became an informative and happy Viking owner. He enjoyed traveling and yachting with family and friends, fine dining and socializing, art, jazz and classical music, Broadway shows. He found much enjoyment and relaxation playing the saxophone, piano and spending time with his Siberian Husky's, Sheba and Shadow. He was a devoted husband, loving father and brother, and will be sadly missed by family and friends. Predeceased by daughter, Kelly A. Shina - Alahyane ( Zak ), his parents Peter and Mae Shina, sister in laws Marie Reckner and Alvera Mascio.. Surviving are his loving wife Shirley ( nee Mascio ), loving and caring daughter Patricia Shina - Miller ( Jerry ) of Folsom, NJ. Lovable Granddaughter and Grandson, Amber Rose Miller and Ryan Tyler Miller. Loving and caring sister Patricia S. Thomas of Hammonton, NJ, Brother in Laws, John Mascio ( Eileen ) of Hammonton, NJ, Daniel Mascio of GA, Sister in Law, Rita Warren of Jacksonville, FL. Numerous nieces and nephews, relatives in New York and Ireland. Family and friends are invited to attend his visitation Thursday April 7th from 9:30am - 11:00am followed with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am all at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish - St. Joseph Church 3rd & French Streets Hammonton, NJ. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements entrusted to the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. 3rd St. Hammonton, NJ. Donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.
