Harold Knorr age 86 of Pitman passed away Sept 9, 2010. Harold was born in Monroeville and was a Pitman resident since 1952. He was a graduate of Glassboro High School, class of 1942 and will be inducted into the Glassboro High School Athletic Hall of Fame later this month. Harold retired from E.I DuPont in Gibbstown, NJ, after 35 years of service. Upon his retirement he was a Construction Supervisor for Habitat for Humanity of Gloucester County for over ten years. He was a life time member of First Presbyterian Church of Pitman where he served on the Board and held the position of a Deacon. Harold also served as the Glassboro Building Inspector for several years in addition to building several homes throughout the borough with a local contractor, including the family home that he lived in for 58 years. He served in the US Coast Guard during WWII and was awarded the American Area Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Area Campaign Medal, the World War II Victory Medal and the Distinguished Service Medal. Following his service to his country, Harold played Triple A baseball for the Delaware Blue Rocks, Lancaster Red Roses and signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Athletics as a left-handed pitcher. Throughout his life, Harold enjoyed playing baseball, watching sports, fishing, bird hunting, wood working and traveling and spending time with his family. Harold is predeceased by his beloved wife Eleanor (nee Chance), his brothers, Leonard of Glassboro, Howard and Elwood of Monroeville and his parents Jacob and Viola Knorr of Monroeville. Surviving are his daughter Wendy S. Knorr-Keehn and her husband Michael R. Keehn of Glassboro and his sister Gladys Leatherwood of Mullica Hill, as well as his step-grandchildren, Lt. Cmdr. Michael Dillon, USN of San Diego, CA; Jacqueline and Laruen Keehn of Sicklerville, as well as two great grandchildren, Colin and Shane Keehn. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Friday Sept. 17th 9:00 am-10:30 with services at 10:30 am at First Presbyterian Church of Pitman, luncheon following at church social hall all are welcome. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
